The European Federation of Irish Wolfhound Clubs (E.I.W.C.) was founded in
1994. Its purpose was to unite the Irish Wolfhound breed Clubs from as many
European Countries as possible under a single framework, with the main
objectives of protecting, promoting, and improving the breed. Since the founding
of the federation, the E.I.W.C. has held a congress and a show every second year,
which has become an event of great importance and interest for breed
enthusiasts. The congresses have consisted of lectures by a wide spectrum of
specialists from veterinarians, geneticists, breeders, judges to artists. The most
recent congress in Denmark hosted visitors and exhibitors from more than 30
different countries. The E.I.W.C. has proven to reach way beyond the original
geographical boundaries and, both the Congresses and the publication “IW
World” have participants and subscribers from the global community.
The board of the E.I.W.C. is devoted to its fundamental purpose of protecting,
promoting and to improving the breed, which entails a gradual expansion of the
activities. It is a concern, that a large number of judges are - and will be licensed
to judge the breed with no more guidance, than the presently rather brief breed
standard to aid them, therefore the Federation has decided to arrange judges
seminars every other year to ensure that the Irish Wolfhound is judged in a
manner, which protects the future standard of the breed.
