The congress in Slovenia was a real highlight for Irish Wolfhound fanciers.

We spent a wonderful weekend in Kranjska Gora, situated in beautiful surroundings near the Border to Austria and Italy.

First of all let me say once more our gratitude and thanks to the organising Sighthound Club of Slovenia, and especially to Davor Marijanovic and his crew, who really did a great job.

There was’nt anything that they did’nt have prepared, no question that did’nt get an answer.

In the entrance of Hotel Kompas they had set up a real office and there was always someone ready to help you.

Most people already arrived on Thursday and in the evening we were sitting together exchanging news; we shared a good meal in spite of the poor waiters who were not at all prepared to this rush!

On Friday morning the first meeting started very early but we were well prepared and went through the points quite quickly.

The meeting with all the delegates brought forward some new friends from Hungary, Austria and Estonia. With these three countries we now have 19 European clubs working together, with the help of our “Observers” from Northern Ireland and England.

We had the opportunity to admire the beautiful picture, drawn from one of Betty Murphy’s favourite photographs by the Italian artist Mauro Malacan, that we wanted to give her as a present together with the title of “Honorary President of EIWC”, created for her.

After this constructive meeting, followed by a little break at noon, we went to one of the great congress areas of Hotel Kompas for the event of the day, the congress with the different speakers. We didn’t see time pass by, as all of them were very convincing in what they told us in their lectures.

A special wink at the actor, the Irish Wolfhound who had to let Pat Pask go over him to show what she wanted to explain to us.

After the congress we just had time to have a shower and get dressed for dinner. Just across the road we got a warm welcome from the organising club members before a lovely and well presented buffet dinner.

After drinks and greetings all around we could have spent much more hours sitting and exchanging stories and news if there were’nt the shows of the next two days. But, honestly, if you look at the faces of more than one handler of the Saturday show you can imageing how much they have slept.

Looking forward to see you all in two years in Denmark, Monette.
